New US House Bill Could Give Parents More Choices in Schools [VIDEO]
A new bill introduced in the US House by Wyoming's Representative Cynthia Lummis would allow parents to have more choices of where their child could go to school. This bill if it becomes a law could give parents an account with the same averaged amount of money allocated to public schools per student, but parents could use money for public, private, charter, or even home schooling. The Local Education Freedom Act or House Bill 5517 was introduced on 06/16/16.
Generally, these sorts of public funding for private school schemes have been opposed by educators since they siphon money away from public schools, which, in the case of Wyoming, are already hurting due to budget cuts.
The odds of passage are slim, and it would, no doubt, face a Presidential veto.
