Shawn Buckley, who was just hired to head the Casper Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, has decided not to accept the position, according to a news release from the Board of the Natrona County Travel and Tourism Council.

"Further action is pending Council input," according to the news release.Buckley was chosen two weeks ago.

Buckley, a Casper native who has been the executive director of the Sheridan Travel and Tourism Bureau, was scheduled to start on June 1.

A press release from the bureau did not explain why he backed out of the job.

Buckley was hired to replace former Convention and Visitors Bureau CEO Aaron McCreight, who took a similar job in Iowa.

The Casper Area Convention and Visitors Bureau is the marketing arm of the Natrona County Travel and Tourism Council, a joint powers board of appointees from the county and city.

Its primary objective is to encourage more and longer visitor stays through marketing programs for conventions, individual tourists and tourists who travel in groups, and special events.

The convention and visitors bureau is supported by a 4 percent lodging tax.
