Trustees with the Natrona County School District have unanimously approved revisions to the district’s tobacco use policy.

Natrona County students will be disallowed from using electronic cigarettes and vapor devices on school grounds following the revisions that were approved Monday night.

District trustee Audrey Cotherman says previous drafts of the policy only prohibited traditional tobacco product use, and the language of the policy needed to be updated for new and developing technologies.

“I really think it’s a good idea because it’s a real health issue,” Cotherman said. “I’m glad that the board added that."

Cotherman says the ban extends not only to students, but also to district faculty and employees. The use of vapor devices will also be prohibited within district-owned vehicles and buses.

Cotherman says the revised policy will take effect immediately. The policy was first adopted in 1988.
