Natrona County and other law enforcement agencies stopped 266 vehicles and arrested four drunken drivers during a county-wide, multi-agency DUI enforcement operation over the Labor Day holiday, according to a news release from the Wyoming Department of Transportation.

While the focus was on impaired drivers, area law enforcement also issued 40 speeding tickets, 14 seat belt citations, 83 other citations and 44 warnings.

Labor Day marked the last long weekend of the summer and, while still too many, four DUI arrests is fairly low, said Pete Abrams, WYDOT's law enforcement liaison. "The most important thing is there were no fatality crashes."

Multi-agency law enforcement operations will resume on New Year's Eve.

They intend to reduce fatal crashes through enforcement of impaired driving and seatbelt laws, and a media campaign emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance on those issues.

Agencies staffing the operations include the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office, and the Casper, Mills and Evansville police departments. Other partners include the Wyoming Medical Center and the Wyoming Department of Transportation.

Wyoming Highway Patrol also urges motorists to help keep the state's roadways safe by calling the Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately (REDDI) hotline number at (800) 442-9090 to report suspected drunk drivers. Callers should be prepared to provide the dispatcher with a description of the vehicle, its location, and direction of travel.
