It appears Natrona County's new top law enforcement officer will come from within the Sheriff's Office.

At its work session on Tuesday, June 25th, Natrona County Commissioners recommended that Lieutenant Gus Holbrook should become the next sheriff.

He was recommended over Gavin Donnelly of the Occupational Health and Safety Administration, who was the only other candidate who submitted his name for consideration.

Holbrook says his experience and support from all of his co-workers within the department, should lead to a smooth transition once he gets his new badge.

"I know what's gone on for almost 29 years, so that gave me a little edge over Gavin, but the employees also came forward for me. Right now, the staff that we have is spectacular, there would be no changes with the staff itself. I've worked with them for many years and they know their job."

The Natrona County Commissioners will have a special meeting on Thursday, June 27th at 1:30pm, to make the matter official.

If confirmed, Holbrook would be replacing Mark Benton who is retiring due to health reasons.

The Sheriff's position will be up for election in November 2014.
