The National Science Foundation has awarded the University of Wyoming $1.2 million to bolster the number of secondary school math and science teachers in the state.  Under the program, UW is to certify 70 new math and science teachers over the next five years.

The project is a partnership among UW, Northwest College, U.S. military services and school districts in Big Horn, Fremont, Goshen, Hot Springs, Laramie, Natrona, Uinta and Washakie counties.

The goal of the project is to increase the number of qualified science and math certified teachers by targeting individuals with strong science, technology, engineering and math backgrounds. Most of the money will be used to fund scholarships.
