May 15th Is “Police Officer’s Memorial Day”
Many of us have some bad things to say about police. To be fair, it’s probably because you did something that warranted a visit from a man in blue, and you were mad you got caught. It’s easier to hate somebody else than it is to own-up to your issues.
Today is the day to set aside any bad feelings – warranted or not – and honor all of the police officers who gave their lives in the line of duty. According to this story from the Huffington Post, the FBI says that 72 law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty last year, up from 56 the year before. An additional 53 officers died in accidents, and 54,774 officers were assaulted in the line of duty.
Holiday Insights offers some different ways you can honor those fallen:
Show appreciation for police officers.
Make a donation to a police officer fund or memorial
Participate in activities honoring officers who have died on duty.
Better still, create a memorial event, if there isn’t one in your area.
Thank your police officers for a job well done.
On a personal note, I know many of Casper’s finest, and most of these officers are great guys and gals. They’re normal people just trying to make a living while doing what they can to help people out. They’re also willing to lay their lives on the line to ensure that we live in a safe environment. Take some time today and say thanks…just try not to get pulled over first.
