A Casper man has been accused of assaulting his girlfriend, and trying to cover up his actions.

Thirty five year old Mark Wood has pleaded not guilty to one charge of aggravated assault and battery and one count of interference with a peace officer.

Investigators with the Casper Police Department say just before the Christmas Holiday, they were informed of the situation, when the victim checked into the Wyoming Medical Center, because she had multiple bruises over her body and a black eye.

She ended up having surgery for a head injury.

She told investigators that on the night of the incident, Wood began screaming at her, threw her off the bed, kicked her, and put her in the bath tub.

She said she did not have a history of seizures

Officers then went to Wood's trailer on Center Street and knew he was inside, but could not make contact with him.

They then obtained a search warrant, and when he didn't respond, they forced their way into the trailer.

Police were able to determine that Wood had cleaned the bathroom and surrounding areas with bleach, but did manage to find several droplets of what they suspected was dried blood.

When interviewed, Wood said he had been drinking earlier, and his girlfriend was not feeling well, so he put her in an Epson salt bath, but then she began having seizures.

He was unable to explain the bruises on the victim.

Wood is being held on $10,000 bond awaiting trial, and could face up to 10 years in prison on the aggravated assault and battery charge, and up to one year in jail on the interference with a peace officer charge, if convicted.
