CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — President Donald Trump has nominated Mark Klaassen as the chief federal law enforcement officer for Wyoming.

The U.S. Senate must confirm his nomination for U.S. attorney for Wyoming.

Raised in Gillette, Klaassen is currently an assistant U.S. attorney for Wyoming. He has been in the job for more than eight years

From 2007 to 2009, he was chief of staff to the general counsel for the Department of Homeland Security, and he also served as general counsel for the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security from 2003 to 2007.

Wyoming Republican U.S. Sens. Mike Enzi and John Barrasso and U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney issued a joint statement supporting Klaassen's nomination.
