Lightning Starts Small Fire In Northeast Yellowstone

(npswikipedia)

Lightning from recent thunderstorms has started a small fire in the northeastern region of Yellowstone National Park.

The Druid Fire was reported early Friday afternoon. It is located approximately two miles north of the Northeast Entrance Road on the northern aspect of Druid Peak overlooking the Lamar Valley. The fire is estimated to be two acres and burning in heavy spruce timber. It will be monitored by park fire crews.  No roads, campgrounds or trails are closed because of this fire, and it poses no threat to visitors. The fire danger in Yellowstone National Park is currently “High.”

Spokesman Al Nash says this is the second lightning-caused fire reported in Yellowstone this week. The Snake Fire, at approximately 200 acres, continues to burn on the Yellowstone National Park/Bridger-Teton National Forest boundary near the park’s South Entrance.
