A fire has destroyed four historic buildings containing more than a dozen businesses in downtown Dubois.

No injuries are reported and Dubois mayor Twila Blakeman says the damage still is being assessed.

Blakeman says the fire was reported around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

She says conditions for firefighters were horrendous as they fought to keep the fire from spreading to the entire block.

One building destroyed contained about 10 separate businesses.

Also burned were a fly fishing shop and a gallery.

Blakeman says firefighters had the flames under control by 5 a.m. Wednesday.
