A man in Laramie, who was said to have overdosed heroin, was found to be in possession of a felony amount of the drug.

According to an official release from the Laramie Police Department, officers responded just before 8:00 Thursday evening to a rescue call on the 1200 block of N. 19th Street in Laramie.  Officials are saying that Justin Alec Heddy was visiting from out of town and overdosed on the drug heroin.  Laramie Police Commander Mitchell Cushman says that Heddy was not breathing when he was found by emergency responders.

"His life was saved by our well trained EMS fireman," Cmdr. Cushman said in an email statement.  "This is a good example of how crimes involving drugs from one jurisdiction can use resources of another jurisdiction.  Heddy likely purchased his drugs in another jurisdiction but was arrested here within hours of his arrival."

A subsequent investigation did find that Heddy was in possession of a felony amount of heroin.

Possession of a Schedule 1 drug, like heroin, is a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than five years, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.

"He will be housed in our jail and be seen by our judges. If he is imprisoned, he will be a ward of our state until his sentence is served," says Cmdr. Cushman.  "If anyone ever tells you ‘what happens in other states do not affect us’, you know that to be untrue."
