Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says the fact that no state or local sales taxes are collected on purchases made over the internet is hurting businesses in the Cowboy state.

The mayor says that while he will "probably catch heck for this" the lack of such taxes "hurts a community, no doubt. It hurts the state of Wyoming."

The mayor says the lack of tax collections for online purchases is unfair to Wyoming businesses and hurts the state economy by encouraging state residents to buy online rather than make purchases at local businesses.

The lack of sales tax collections also means lost revenues for government operations.

The mayor says he thinks state lawmakers need to take a look at the lack of online sales taxes even though "I know that's not a very popular topic to discuss or think about supporting."

He adds despite public opposition he thinks '"the reality of the situation" demands some kind of taxation for internet purchases in Wyoming
