K9s 4 Mobility broke ground Friday on a training facility expansion which will allow the nonprofit to train more certified assistance dogs for people with disabilities. The site is located at 11805 Campstool Road, east of Cheyenne near the Wyoming Hereford Ranch.

Opened just two years ago, K9s 4 Mobility, headquartered in Cheyenne, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the training, placement and ongoing support of assistance dogs and their assistance dog partnerships.

Michelle Woerner, Executive Director of K9s 4 mobility says the new training facility will allow for additional dogs to be trained at a time and many more people will receive their assistance dog sooner. The new 40 x 60 training facility will be able to house dogs in training and provide a place for their training to occur. The building will have indoor/outdoor kennels, bathing area, training area, office and meeting area. Outside will be a large fenced in area for exercising the dogs. The facility will be open by May 1, 2014.

Businessman Mick McMurry has donated the use of the five acres, which already includes a house where Woerner and her family live. Additionally, Granite Peak Development LP and WN McMurry Construction Co. have donated the steel building, including all the insulation, doors and windows. Driko Pappas has donated all of the architect design. Simons is donating the excavating of the ground. Pillar Structural Engineering is donating the foundation design. Leeds Pickering has donated $20,000 to be used to complete building project. Reimen Corp. is donating all cement.
