SHAYNE KOST WAS AMONG SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO CRITICIZED THE NATRONA COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT'S BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESPONSE TO AN INCIDENT EARLIER THIS MONTH WHEN MEMBERS OF THE KELLY WALSH HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING TEAM WATERBOARDED A TEAMMATE.

AT THE END OF THE BOARD'S MEETING MONDAY AFTER A DEDICATION OF THE RENOVATED NATRONA COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL, SOME TRUSTEES CALLED THE INCIDENT AN EMBARRASSMENT AND A MISTAKE.

LAST WEEK, THE CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE REPORTED THAT ON JANUARY 3RD, SEVERAL MEMBERS OF THE WRESTLING TEAM ATTACKED A TEAMMATE, HELD HIM DOWN, PUT A TOWEL OVER HIS FACE AND POURED WATER ON HIM.

THIS IS CALLED WATERBOARDING, AND HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS HAVE CONDEMNED IT AS TORTURE.

THE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS CONCLUDED THAT A CRIME HAD OCCURRED.

MONDAY, KELLY WALSH SENIOR DYLAN THOMPSON
THE PERPETRATORS SHOULD BE TRIED IN COURT AND SHOULD BE EXPELLED.

A PARENT ASKED WHERE THE TRUSTEES DRAW THE LINE BETWEEN EXTREME BULLYING AND TORTURE.

TRUSTEE CLARK JENSEN SAID TRUSTEES ARE NOT TRYING TO SWEEP THE INCIDENT UNDER THE RUG, BUT THEY OVERSEE A SCHOOL SYSTEM AND DO NOT ACT AS A LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY.

JENSEN AND RAY CATELLIER CALLED IT AN EMBARRASMENT.

CATELLIER SAID RELEASING MORE INFORMATION WILL NOT BE HELPFUL TO THE PUBLIC.

OTHER TRUSTEES SAID THEY LEGALLY CANNOT COMMENT ON THE INCIDENT.

KEVIN CHRISTOPHERSON SAID PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES AND HE HOPES EVERYONE CAN MOVE BEYOND THIS INCIDENT.
