CASPER RESIDENTS SAID DURING A FORUM WEDNESDAY THAT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT COULD HELP ITS IMAGE BY SHOWING ITSELF MORE SUCH AS ITS OFFICERS DID DURING THE ECLIPSEFEST.

THIS WAS AMONG THE RECOMMENDATIONS RESIDENTS MADE TO CONSULTANTS FOR THE CENTER FOR PUBLIC SAFETY MANAGEMENT, WHICH WAS HIRED BY THE CASPER CITY COUNCIL TO CONDUCT A THOROUGH, INDEPENDENT REVIEW OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.

CENTER CONSULTANT AND FORMER PASEDENA, CALIFORNIA, INTERIM POLICE CHIEF WAYNE HILTZ HAS BEEN REVIEWING DATA ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT'S WORK LOAD, STAFFING, DEPLOYMENT, OPERATIONS, AND SUPPORT SERVICES.

HILTZ SAID WEDNESDAY'S FORUM IS PART OF THE RESEARCH.

A COUPLE OF THE WOMEN IN THE AUDIENCE REFERRED TO THE DEPARTMENT'S PERCEIVED DISINTEREST IN INVESTIGATING SEXUAL ASSAULT CASES.

SEVERAL PEOPLE SAID THE DEPARTMENT IS RESPECTED, BUT IT COULD DO A BETTER JOB OF COMMUNICATING WITHIN ITSELF AND WITH THE COMMUNITY.

THEY ALSO WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE POLICE PRESENCE WITH OFFICERS WALKING AND BIKING IN NEIGHBORHOODS.

HILTZ SAID HE AND THE OTHER CONSULTANTS WILL ISSUE A REPORT BY OCTOBER.

HE SAID WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE CENTER ISSUES THE REPORT IS UP TO THE CITY COUNCIL.
