A Casper man will avoid going to prison after he admitted to filling out fake returns for items, and then pocketing the cash for those returns.

Joshua Hill was given a three-to-five year suspended prison sentence with three years of probation, after he pleaded guilty to one count of theft.

Investigators with the Casper Police Department say in October 2015, store management at O’Reilly Auto Parts on Yellowstone Highway, became aware of some discrepancies in inventory, when various items listed were not where they were supposed to be.

It was later determined that Hill had filed false return receipts and was taking the money.

When confronted, Hill admitted to what he did, saying he committed 34 thefts between July and October, for more than $2,300.

He said he did it to help pay electrical bills, buy fuel and feed his children.

Hill has been ordered to pay restitution.
