A Mills man has been charged with aggravated assault after police say he shot a man he suspected was dealing meth to his stepson.

Investigators say John Carlton shot the victim in the shoulder during a confrontation Wednesday night at Highland Cemetery in Casper.

Carlton told an investigator he was only trying to scare the alleged dealer, but the gun went off when he hit the man in the face with the weapon.

The injured man tried to walk to the hospital but paramedics responded after he nearly passed out.

According Sgt. Deahn Amend, his injuries did not appear life-threatening.

Carleton is being held at the Natrona County Detention Center on forty-thousand dollars bond.
