Jessica Carnline Pleads Guilty To Vehicular Homicide

The young woman who crashed a car into the Wyoming Medical Center, killing two people, pleaded guilty to two counts of vehicular homicide on Wednesday.

Jessica Carnline, who was 17 at the time of the crash, entered her plea before Natrona County District Court Judge Catherine Wilking.

In exchange for a guilty plea to both counts, prosecutors will seek no more than  16-year prison sentences to run concurrently.

Wilking is not obligated to accept the terms of the plea agreement.

Investigators with the Casper Police Department say in September, Carnline was driving a vehicle eastbound on Second Street, approaching the Wyoming Medical Center, when the vehicle went over the curb and hit a sign in front of the hospital, and the building itself.

Passengers Brandon Avery, 27, and Amanda Strickland, also 27, died as a result of injuries they sustained in the crash, while Carnline was treated for her injuries.

Investigators later found a can of air duster inside the vehicle, and in an interview with Carnline, she told police that it made her high.

Police determined that the vehicle was going as fast as 76 mph at the time of the collision, and there were no signs that the brakes were used and no one was wearing their seat-belt.

Carnline will be sentenced at a later date.

Although she was 17 at the time of the crash, prosecutors charged her as an adult.
