A Casper man's plan to win his girlfriend's admiration, has "back fired."

Forty-seven year old Jefferey Oliver has been charged with one count of first degree arson, in which investigators say he intentionally started a fire in an apartment on the 300 block of North Lincoln Street.

Police say on April 19th, a call came in for a structure fire.

Four adults and two children were in the apartment at the time.  They were all able to get out of the apartment safely.

Investigators later determined the fire was started in a refrigerator.

Oliver later admitted to police he wanted his girlfriend to pay more attention to him, so he started the fire and then went back to bed, with intentions of putting out the blaze a short time later and save everyone.

However the blaze got out of control and prosecutors say Oliver's plan to play hero went up in smoke.

He is being held on $50,000 bond, awaiting trial.
