A Natrona County man is accused of raping his wife.

Forty-eight year old James Furley has pleaded not guilty to three charges of first degree sexual assault.

Investigators with the Natrona County Sheriff's Office say on one evening in June 2016, Furley forced his wife to engage in various sexual acts against her will on more than one occasion.

The victim said there was another instance in May, and she had audio recordings of some the incidents.

She told investigators she was scared of Furley and intended on divorcing him, plus she had been audio recording interactions with Furley, to show how he treated her and their children, when no one else was around.

When interviewed, Furley heard some of the recordings and told investigators that he had taken things too far.

He added "I did not know it was illegal to rape my wife."

Furley is free on $25,000 bond awaiting trial, and could face between five-to-50 years in prison on each charge if convicted.
