A woman is arrested for being intoxicated while in court.

At about a quarter after nine Thursday morning, Casper police responded to the Casper Municipal Courthouse for a report of an intoxicated female in the courtroom.

Upon arrival, the bailiff directed officers to forty-three-year-old Margaret Smith who was sitting in the back row.

Smith was escorted from the courtroom for questioning where, according to affidavit, she told the officers that she wasn't drunk, although she had consumed eighteen Bud Lights and some vodka until one in the morning.

Smith further stated that she was an alcoholic and drank the previous night because she thought that she was going to be sentenced to six months jail time in court that morning.

Officers reported that Smith had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, poor balance, and slurred speech.

After refusing a portable breath test, she was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the Natrona County Detention Center without further incident.
