International Robotics Championship In Casper March 16th

Brian Scott, Town Square Media
Natrona County School District #1 and Casper College will host Wyoming’s 5th FIRST TECH CHALLENGE (FTC) for over 20 teams from Wyoming, nine teams from other states and  Mexico City, Mexico. The FTC teams will compete in this championship robotic sporting event at the Casper College Administration Building gym on Saturday, March 16. The event is free and open to the public.
FTC is designed for high-schoolers to compete head to head using robotics in a sports setting. Teams of up to 10 students are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots to compete against other teams. Awards are given for the competition as well as community outreach and design.
This year’s competition theme is RING IT UP, played on a 12’x12’ diamond-shaped competition field. The object of the game is to score the most points by having each robot place plastic rings onto pegs on a central rack on the field. Each match between teams consists of a 30-second autonomous (pre-programmed) period followed by a two- minute remote operation (driver-controlled) period.

The Saturday March 16th schedule at Casper College is:

10:30 am                     Opening Ceremony – Speaker – Timothy Bendel, Frontier Astronautics
11:00 am                     Qualification Matches begin
11:00-1:00 pm             Lunch
1:00 pm                       Qualification Matches Resume
