Human Cause Sited For Squirrel Creek Fire

Duane Short, Biodiversity Conservation Alliance

Investigators on the Squirrel Creek Fire say they’ve determined it was human caused.

“One thing people should understand is, 75 percent of the fires, at least, are human caused. And we just ask people to be very careful. Its bad enough that we do have the lightening strikes, but when we do it to ourselves that just makes it a lot worse.”

Fire Information Officer, Larry Helmerick says the fire remains active on its southwest side. More C-130s are being brought in.

He says they haven’t gotten much rain today, but for a few sprinkles.

An earlier update had that fire at just over 10,000 acres. That number is expected to grow and as of Thursdaymorning the fire was over 50 percent contained. The fire has destroyed one home and three outbuildings.
