Shots rang out in a community north of Rock Springs early Saturday morning. Sweetwater County Sheriff's Detective Dick Blust says a combination of alcohol and an assault rifle resulted in the arrest of Carlos Salazar.

Gunshots disrupt the quiet:

"Callers said multiple shots were fired and the deputies’ investigation led to a particular residence, where a spent 7.62x39 mm rifle cartridge casing was found on the stairs leading to the front door. Once inside the residence, deputies made contact with Carlos L. Salazar, 24, who was reportedly intoxicated."

Det. Blust said Salazar was arrested and charged with Reckless Endangering, a misdemeanor.

Initial court appearance:

"Deputies recovered his AK-47 assault rifle and five spent 7.62x39 mm cartridge cases found near the front door. Salazar appeared in Circuit Court in Rock Springs on Monday, on March 14, where Judge Dan Forgey set his bond at $500, cash or surety."

There were no injuries reported, said Blust, but with the type of metal jacketed ammunition used, the stray bullets could have easily passed through the walls of the mobile homes in the area.
