Group Looks At Improving Wyoming School Security

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — An interim legislative committee is studying how to improve school security in Wyoming.

The Associated Press reported that it’s looking at training, safer building and school resource officers. Gov. Matt Mead asked the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security to start the group.

Federal funds that pay for resource officers are drying up. A bill that would have given money to districts to pay for one officer for every 1,000 students failed in the recent legislative session.

Natrona County has two school resource officers. Associate superintendent Steve Hopkins thinks the district will find a way to pay for them even if federal funding is cut.
