Governor Matt Mead toured the 62,000-acre Oil Creek Fire near Newcastle and the 11,000-acre Squirrel Creek Fire west of Laramie. He said it was sad, especially for those who've lost homes or grazing opportunities.

"If there's a bright side to it, everywhere I go and look at these fires and have discussions with those who fight them they are uniformly very complimentary of the many volunteers who step up at the local communities, very complimentary of the county fire officials and the work that they've done."

Both fires have been contained. Together the fires destroyed two residences and four other structures in addition to other property.

"We had over, to date, about 4000 people come in from out of state to help fight these fires and we still have a long fire season to go."

He says its a dangerous situation that continues.
