Governor Matt Mead says the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed standards for power plant emissions could have a negative impact on Wyoming and the entire country.

He says it could mean no new coal fired power plants built without carbon capture and sequestration capabilities. Mead says we need more exploration into using coal in a cleaner fashion.

"Wyoming's interested in cleaner coal usage and that's why we've done the things we have with the University of Wyoming. We're gonna look at these very seriously and see what it means to the coal industry."

The public comment period has not started for this proposed standard, when it does, Governor Mead said Wyoming will likely provide comments.
