A Mills man will avoid prison time after admitting that he misused money, while he was in charge of a war veterans post.

Fifty-year old George Hall was given a five to seven year suspended prison sentence with eight years of probation, after he pleaded guilty to one charge of theft.

Investigators with the Mills Police Department say from July 2013 through January 2014, Hall was the Quartermaster of the VFW post.

During his tenure, Police say he had access to the post's debit card, and made more than $15,000 in purchases and ATM withdrawals.

When interviewed Hall said the money was used for various items at the VFW post, but then later said some of it was used for personal items, such as food, minutes for his cell phone and Facebook games.

Prosecutors say as a result of Hall's actions, the VFW had to close its doors.

Hall has also been ordered to pay more than $15,000 in restitution.
