CODY, Wyo. (AP) — Black bears and grizzly bears are becoming increasingly active at lower elevations in some areas of Wyoming.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department warns landowners and outdoor enthusiasts to be aware of bears and take steps to avoid possible conflicts.

Mark Bruscino is supervisor of the game department's large carnivore section. He says bears have been very active the last couple of weeks along the valley floors and front country areas around Cody.

It's common in many areas of Wyoming to see bears coming into town in the springtime. The game department advises people to secure anything that might attract them, including garbage, pet food and livestock feed.

People should watch for signs of bear activity such as tracks, scat, and diggings and use caution especially along creeks and rivers.
