Game Department Warns Against Feeding Mule Deer
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Game and Fish Department warns that wildlife losses may be high in parts of the state this winter because of severe drought.
The department is reminding the public not to feed mule deer. The agency says that supplemental feeding often does deer more harm than good and doesn’t increase their chances of survival.
Daryl Lutz is wildlife management coordinator with the game department in Lander.
Lutz says mule deer and pronghorn are already in poor condition going into the fall. He says there’s not much for them to eat on their transition and winter ranges. The game department anticipates increased animal mortality this winter even if it’s only a mild or normal winter.
