Police say a Casper man tried to break into his mother-in-law's apartment with an axe.

Frederico Gomez Junior has pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated assault, aggravated burglary and interfering with a 911 call.

Police say in May, Gomez's mother-in-law told officers that Gomez Junior showed up at her apartment wanting to see his wife.

At first he was beating and kicking the front door, and was threatening to break it in.

Gomez Junior then went to the back of the building, climbed onto the balcony and entered the apartment with an axe.

He then grabbed his wife and broke his mother-in-law's phone while she was talking with 911 operators.

He left the apartment empty handed, and was arrested a short time later after police found the axe.

Gomez Junior is being held on fifty-thousand dollars bond, awaiting trial.
