The Converse County Sheriff's Office has initiated evacuations for people living in areas threatened by a rapidly growing wildfire. The evacuations run from County Road 24, known as Cold Springs Road and Fetterman Road, which is County Road 16 in the north, all the way to the Albany County line.

Evacuees are being sent to the Douglas Recreation Center. Anyone living in the affected area can call the Converse County Sheriff's Office for more information. The Douglas office number is 307-358-4700. The office in Glenrock can be reached at 307-436-2778.

The fire is rapidly growing, aided by very strong winds. It started Sunday about 32 miles south of Glenrock and rapidly consumed 800 acres. It's burning on private land, and parts of Medicine Bow National Forest.

Several crews and helicopters were battling the blaze in rough terrain on Monday. The cause of the fire remains under investigation
