Police arrested a man who allegedly pointed a gun at another man he claimed was making him hear voices on Thursday afternoon.

After Julian Lopez, 33, pulled the gun at a shop on Western Avenue in Evansville, he drove on East Yellowstone Highway through Casper until police stopped him on First Streets just west of Nichols Avenue.

Friday, Lopez heard the one count of aggravated assault -- punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment -- during his initial appearance in Natrona County Circuit Court on Friday.

Because Lopez has no apparent criminal history and has been a lifelong resident in the area, Judge Steven Brown set his bond at $3,000 and ordered him to be evaluated for drug and alcohol use. He will have a preliminary hearing within a couple of weeks to determine whether his case should be bound over for trial.

The case began when an officer responded to a report about a fight at the shop, where one man said Lopez blamed him for the voices in his head, according to an affidavit filed with circuit court. "Lopez thought the only way to get the voices to stop was to kill (the man)."

Lopez and the man argued for about 10 minutes when Lopez began crying and pulled the gun out of his pocket. At that point, the magazine fell out. The man told the other men to get out of the shop and call 911.

Meanwhile, Casper police officers stopped the vehicle, took Lopez into custody, searched the vehicle and found a pistol later identified as the one Lopez used at the shop.
