Wyoming high school basketball players have a new opportunity to showcase their skills in pursuit of playing at the next level.

The new Wyoming Elite AAU Basketball program is holding open tryouts for male players from across the state currently in 8th through 12th grades. The try out is Saturday, April 9 at Eastside Elementary School in Rock Springs beginning at 2 p.m.

Approximately 30 players will be selected from the tryouts to man three teams that will travel to high exposure tournaments.

Rock Springs High School boys basketball head coach Robert Harmon has organized this new program with the hopes of getting more exposure for any Wyoming high school player that desires it. The focus is on skill building while playing high level competition around the country and being seen on a national level by college coaches.

According to a release from the program, Wyoming Elite Basketball has worked to raise money and find sponsors in order to lower the cost for players. However, players are expected to pay dues which include tournament registration, facility use, custodial fees, and NCAA approvals.

When it comes to payment, Coach Harmon said they will work with players to make sure people can get to the tournaments and he doesn’t want cost to deter anyone from trying out.
