Education, Literacy Top First Lady’s Visit To Casper
Literacy was the dominant theme for Wyoming First Lady Carol Mead’s visit to Casper Monday. Starting the day at Evansville elementary she served students breakfast as they prepared for a day of PAWS Testing, then she went on to the Natrona County Public Library for a tour.
Lunchtime was spent with the Casper Rotary Club addressing a full house on a Scholastic summer-reading literacy program. Mead says her focus on literacy comes out of her work with CASA-Court Appointed Special Advocates- and the struggles of young victims of abuse and neglect.
“I guess what I came to after that last experience is that we can help children in those situations when they’re in acute difficulties, but to try to help them for a life time, I think the way we’re gonna do that is by sustained education.”
Mrs. Mead wrapped up the day at the Literacy Volunteers of Casper 25th Annual Appreciation Banquet.
