A traffic stop on Tuesday around 7:55 p.m. on Interstate 80 east of Evanston,  resulted in the discovery of over 75 pounds of marijuana. A Wyoming State Trooper was traveling east on I-80 when he saw an eastbound passenger car approaching his patrol car from behind at a high rate of speed. The trooper stopped the sedan for doing 87 mph in a 75 mph zone.

During the traffic stop, the trooper became suspicious that speeding wasn’t the only activity the driver was involved in. A Wyoming Highway Patrol drug detection K-9 responded to the stop and alerted to the presence of a controlled substance in the car. A search turned up over 75 pounds of marijuana.

The driver of the car, 55 year old Edelberto Herrera of Miami, Florida, was arrested and taken to the Uinta County Jail. Mr. Herrera has been charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and felony conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance. The marijuana has an estimated street value of $450,000. The origin and destination of the marijuana are still unknown as the investigation continues.
