Driver Collides With Highway Patrol Vehicle

Wyoming Highway Patrol says a Trooper was injured after a motorist collided with a parked Highway patrol vehicle.

According to WY HP Sgt. Stephen Townsend, the incident happened near the community of Arlington, at around 8:00 Monday morning, 1½ miles east of the Arlington Interchange, on westbound Interstate 80 in Carbon County.

"The Trooper was stopped along the roadside in the median, investigating a prior crash," Townsend says.  "When a one-ton pickup, pulling a van-type trailer, skidded across both westbound lanes and struck [the] patrol car from the back."

The Trooper, identified as Kaycee Shroyer, was seated in his parked patrol car at the time. Townsend says the Shroyer was transported to Ivinson Memorial Hospital, in Laramie, where he was treated and later released. The driver of the pickup was not reported to be injured. However the pickup driver was issued a sitation.

"The roadways were icy," explains Townsend.  "The driver of this pickup and trailer has been sited for 'speed too fast for the existing conditions.'"

The driver of the pickup, 35 year-old Jody Trivette from Lenoir, North Carolina, was not injured in the crash. Trivette was said to be transporting cylinders of compressed nitrogen and oxygen in the trailer.

Trivette has also been cited for transporting a hazardous material without hazardous material placards as required.

The crash remains under investigation and additional charges may be pending.
