With the You Drink, You Drive, You Lose program in full swing, the true costs of drinking and driving were discussed this morning with local attorney John Masterson. If you missed it, here are some of the numbers
Defense Attorney Fees (to plead out)................$1500
Car Tow fee............$115
Car storage fee (per day)........$25
Bail fee (usually 15% of maximum fine amount(........$150
Driver's License reinstatement fee................$50
Driver's License retest/new license.............$20
Court fee..$10
Minimum fine...........$550
Alcohol Evaluation (ASI) .... $75
Possible additional costs:
Alcohol Education Classes (8 hr).....$175
Auto Insurance increase* (average 75%)..... $2000 per year for 3 years**
