The Downtown Farmers Market opened it's 5th year of business tonight. Last year over 50 vendors took over the space on the north side of the Nicolaysen Art Museum and many of them have returned for this year. As it is just a bit early in the growing season the availability of produce was a little light but for those that showed up early, everything from potatoes and beets to tomatoes and kohlrabi were available. In addition to the produce, one will find canned preserves, homemade breads, baklava, fudge, seasonings, natural beef, extra virgin olive oil and other great foodstuffs. There are handmade crafts, doggie treats, birdhouses, cutting boards, jewelry and more. Activities include crafts for the kids, live music, face painting and a lot of your neighbors for great conversation. The Downtown Farmers Market happens every Tuesday evening between 5 and 7:30, until September 4th.
