SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) — The hit television show "Downton Abbey" has ties to — of all places — northern Wyoming.

Though the Crawleys in the Masterpiece PBS program are a fictitious family, Highclere Castle — where the show is filmed — is a real place with a rich history that includes family ties to Big Horn, Wyoming.

The Carnarvon family has lived at Highclere since 1679 and the current Lord George Herbert is the son of Big Horn native Jean Wallop.

Jean Margaret Herbert Wallop is the Countess of Carnarvon.

She was born in 1935 in Big Horn, the daughter of English royalty, though they were far down the line of succession to the throne.

Her nephew currently runs the Canyon Ranch near Sheridan.
