Behind career-highs from Hayden Dalton and Louis Adams, the Wyoming Cowboys won their fifth straight game 97-78 over Cornell Saturday in Laramie.

Dalton scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his second career double-double. He had a career high by halftime with 21 points. Adams scored a career best 24 points and did more of his damage in the second half with 16 points. Jason McManamen and Alan Herndon added 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Dalton was asked about how he felt during his big game.

Wyoming (8-2) took control with a 22-3 run in the first half. The Cowboys started the game with a 15-4 lead. Cornell responded with an 11-3 spurt and pulled within 18-15 at the 11:45 mark. It was 21-18 UW, when the Pokes got baskets from Morris Marshall and Herndon. They went up 10, 30-20, on a Dalton bucket with 7:15 left.

UW’s defense stepped up, as they held the Big Red without a point for three-and-a-half minutes. That allowed the Cowboys to score 14 straight for a 44-21 lead at the 3:34 mark. It was 56-28 at halftime.

The Pokes pushed the lead to 32 points nearly six minutes into the second half and cruised from there.

Cornell (2-6) was never able to make a serious run. The closest they got was 17 points with 4:42 left.

Wyoming shot 47 percent from the field. They went 12-27, 44 percent, from beyond the arc. UW had a 42-33 edge in rebounding, which included 10 offensive boards. That led to 18 second chance points. The Cowboys also capitalized with 21 points off 16 Big Red turnovers.

Cornell was led by Stone Gettings with 23 points. They shot 43 percent from the field.

Reserves Justin James and Andrew Moemeka did not play for UW in the game due to a suspension. Coach Edwards did not go into specifics as to why, but said they both knew ahead of the game.

This marked the first game in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic, with the first two being on campus. The second game will be Monday, Dec. 19 against Troy at 7 p.m. Then Wyoming finishes with two games in Las Vegas Dec. 22 and 23.
