You may have seen the signs around Casper offering leaf pick up on your extra trash day in November. Casper's Public Services Department does it every year as a way to redirect compostables out of the landfill. "Leaves and yard waste and tree branches take up about 12 percent of our landfill space. It's very valuable space. So, if we can divert yard waste and compost it, we think that's a better use."

Jolene Martinez, says it ultimately keeps costs down for everyone. She says you can put out as many bags of leaves as you like and they will be collected on your extra trash day. Leaves must be placed in bags that are tied shut and placed at least three feet away from the dumpsters.

Residents of Mills and Evansville will be have a similar option offered through their municipalities.

Casper residents can find their extra leaf collection day on the city’s website at www.casperwy.gov or by calling 235-8246. Evansville and Mills residents can find additional information at www.casperstormwater.com or by calling your Town Hall.
