A 31-year-old woman is facing up to ten years in prison after a jury found her guilty of injuring a Cheyenne Police officer.

Laramie County District Attorney Jeremiah Sandburg says evidence presented at trial showed Nicole Meza kicked Officer Rebecca Juschka in the throat when Juschka attempted to remove her from the back of a patrol car.

"It wasn't one of those injuries you think of as being really severe," said Sandburg. "It was more like a punch."

Meza faces a maximum penalty of up to ten years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.

Sandburg says it will likely be two to three months before Meza is sentenced.

"It takes the Department of Probation and Parole about two to three months to do those presentence investigations," said Sandburg. "Once the report is done, sentencing usually occurs about two weeks afterwards."

The case marks the 22nd felony jury trial conducted by the Laramie County District Attorney's Office this year.
