A two vehicle crash east of Cheyenne, Wyoming has resulted in the death of 48 year old Cheyenne resident Douglas M. Scholl. The crash happened on Sunday at 11:50 a.m. on US Highway 30, approximately 1 mile east of Cheyenne.
Mr. Scholl was driving a heavy-duty pickup truck traveling east on US 30. Nicholas Sheridan, a 28 year old resident of Cheyenne, was traveling south on Reese Road driving another HD pickup truck. Sheridan failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Reese Road and US 30 colliding broadside with the truck driven by Scholl. After the initial collision, the truck driven by Scholl rolled.
Scholl was wearing his seat belt but still died at the scene. Sheridan was not wearing his seat belt and was thrown from his truck. Sheridan was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical in Cheyenne for treatment.
Impaired driving and failing to stop at the stop sign are being investigated as contributing factors in this crash. Charges are pending. Mr. Scholl marked the 143rd highway fatality in Wyoming for 2015. There were 148 fatalities during this same time period in 2014.
