Interstate 25 northbound was closed for about nine hours on January 18th near Glendo after a crash involving a commercial truck that was pulling two trailers. The crash happened at 11 am, eight miles north of Glendo.
78-year-old Joseph K. Vansickle of Cheyenne was driving a tractor-trailer, actually pulling two trailers, northbound on I-25 when the combination unit ran off the highway to the east. The truck was overcorrected back onto the highway causing it to roll over and the trailers to separate.
Mr. Vansickle was not wearing his seat belt. He was pronounced dead in the ambulance while being taken to Douglas, Wyoming.
A possible medical condition prior to the crash is being investigated as the contributing factor. The northbound lanes of I-25 reopened at 8:00 p.m.
Officials are awaiting the final results of the investigation to determine if Mr. Vansickle died as a result of the crash or from a medical emergency, which then caused the crash. If the crash caused the fatality, it will mark Wyoming’s third highway fatality for 2016 compared to eight fatalities on January 18th in 2015.
