CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A Wyoming prison inmate has appealed the 35-year prison sentence he received on his convictions of trying to hire a hit man to kill his mother and stepfather.

U.S. District Judge Nancy Freudenthal last month sentenced 23-year-old Andrew Silicani of Cheyenne to 35 years in prison. Prosecutors say Silicani was serving time in state prison for two robbery convictions when he tried to arrange the murders for insurance money.

A lawyer with the Office of the Federal Public Defender filed a statement with the 10th U.S. Court of Appeals last week on behalf of Silicani saying that his appeal may focus on the length and reasonableness of his sentence. Silicani's lawyer declined to comment about the case Tuesday.

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Cheyenne also declined to comment.
