Cheyenne Regional Medical Center CEO Margo Karsten says widespread rumors that CRMC is being sold aren't true.

Karsten says she is often asked about a potential sale, and thinks the rumors are being caused at least in part by the extensive renovation and improvement projects that have gone on recently at the Cheyenne hospital. She also says independent community hospitals are becoming a rarity across the country.

She also says rampant hospital expansion in Colorado may be driving some of the rumors, adding that "boutique hospitals are being added in communities that don't need another hospital."

But she points out CRMC is owned by Laramie County and any sale would have to be approved by the County Commission.

She says the improvements that have been implemented aren't part of a plan to sell the hospital, but rather to improve service so the hospital can be a "preferred healthcare system" and meet the competition from other hospitals.
