Cheyenne Frontier Days officials say 2016 attendance figures were down by a little under 7,000 people compared to last year.

Frontier Days spokeswoman Nicole Gamst says a total of 259,198 were counted at CFD events this year for which tickets were sold, compared to 266,030 in 2015.

But Gamst says Frontier Days officials were pleased overall, noting several individual events were up compared to 2015, including Military Monday which garnered 12.374 in rodeo attendance. Attendance at Wednesday's Cheyenne Day Rodeo was the second largest ever for that event, according to Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen.

CFD officials say overall attendance at the four parades and three pancake breakfasts was down a little from last year. They blamed inclement weather for that decline.

Even so they estimate around 65,000 people watched the four parades and say 23,589 people attended the three free pancakes breakfasts.

While Cheyenne Frontier Days 2016 has just ended, it won't be long before the planning for CFD 2017 gets underway. General Chairman Bill Berg says the first stages of planning for next year will get underway later this month.
