Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says an  ''equality and diversity" ordinance will be introduced at the Cheyenne City Council meeting on Monday night.

The mayor on Friday called a news conference for Monday afternoon about a proposal to come before the council. The announcement includes the following description of the ordinance, "The ordinance is in regards to equality and diversity in Cheyenne."

The mayor Friday morning, declined to say exactly what the proposal would do. When asked if the ordinance was specifically a proposal to outlaw discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, the mayor said the proposal, "Deals with the rights of all people."

Earlier this year, Laramie passed an ordinance outlawing discrimination against anyone in housing, employment or accommodations on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. It isn't known at this point whether the Cheyenne ordinance is similar or not.
